The EQ Advantage: Building Stronger Physical Therapy Leaders with Emotional Intelligence

Dr. Jamey Schrier, PT

Best-Selling Author, Speaker, and CEO of Practice Freedom U

Viktor Frankl said, “Everything can be taken from a person but one thing: to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way.” We enter the professional workforce armed with the know-how to provide care for individuals.

But all too often, we lack the skills to manage our emotions in the heat of the challenging problems we face every single day. We get hijacked by our emotions, lose our center, and end up compromising opportunities to do our very best work. As healthcare professionals, our ability to handle our emotions and the emotions of others helps us develop more fulfilling relationships with our patients, coworkers, and families.

Becoming an exceptional physical therapist requires far more than factual knowledge. It requires self-knowledge and emotional mastery.

During this course training, you will learn how to recognize and manage emotions within yourself and others. You will learn simple strategies to handle your emotions even in highly charged situations and emotional confrontations.

October 6-7, 2023

8:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.

Functional Evaluation and Applied Treatments of Complex Foot and Ankle Dysfunctions

Dr. Joshua Bailey, PT

President and CEO of Rehabilitation Associates of Central Virginia

Have you ever had difficulty treating a patient with Plantar Fasciitis? Is there a possibility that the patient did not have plantar fasciitis at all? Have you ever wondered if your patients' poor foot alignment could be contributing to their back pain, knee pain, or hip pain? Unsure of when a patient should have custom orthotics?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you owe it to yourself and your patients to attend this course. Learn how to perform an effective differential diagnosis process for foot and ankle problems, find out what your textbook may have missed, and discover how foot biomechanics can cause symptoms from the foot to the lumbar spine.

During this 2-day course, attendees will receive a detailed course manual with written descriptions, illustrations, and selected post/preoperative protocols. An emphasis will be placed on understanding biomechanical alignment and treating isolated weakness and range of motion deficits related to various foot and ankle diagnoses. Additionally, the course manual will also provide useful evaluation forms and suggested treatment options.

Alzheimer's Disease & Dementia Care Seminar

Virginia Simmons

Consultant, Trainer, and Founder & CEO of Living Active Dementia

It's no secret...

Working with dementia patients can be difficult. And beyond the challenge of memory loss, as their movement expert, you also have to learn to navigate behavioral challenges, decreased safety awareness, difficulty communicating, confusion and disorientation, hallucinations, and more.

Here's what's even more challenging:

Our first instincts are not always the best treatment strategies…

But, with the right knowledge and techniques, you can transform challenging moments into patient (and personal) victories, keep patients moving safely and with less pain, and improve quality of life through hands-on care, patient education, and prescribed movement.

This seminar can help you gain those skills. Plus, become a Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP) after course completion!

8:00 - 8:45 a.m.

The discussion will embody how together we can provide unique perspectives, develop new innovative strategies, and traverse paths to success whether we are on the field, in the field, or at the table by valuing the people in front of us and transforming society with passion, enthusiasm and commitment together.
