Introduction to Functional Neurological Disorder: Diagnosis of Inclusion
Course description:
This essential presentation provides pediatric physical therapists with the foundational knowledge and practical clinical tools necessary to understand, identify, and appropriately manage Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) in the pediatric population. FND is a common and often debilitating condition that can present with diverse sensorimotor symptoms, making it a critical, yet frequently misunderstood, differential diagnosis in pediatric physical therapy practice.
This presentation will equip PTs to be vital members of the multidisciplinary treatment team by focusing on diagnosis of inclusion rather than exclusion. Understanding FND implementing prompt treatment and iis key to minimizing iatrogenic harm.
Objectives:
At the end of this session, participants will:
1. Understand the underlying pathologic mechanisms of functional neurological disorder.
2. Discuss the importance of utilizing inclusion criteria in diagnosing FND and dysautonomia.
3. Perform and interpret appropriate clinical outcome measures for functional neurological disorders and dysautonomia.
