Eric M. Magrum Honored With 2023 Beb Cash Award

The Beb Cash Award is awarded in memory of Bess "Beb" Cash, a 1951 graduate of the Medical College of Virginia who was tragically killed in a car accident. Beb held numerous positions within the chapter, both elective and appointive. She was serving a second term as corresponding secretary at the time of her death. Beb worked in Richmond for most of her career serving at McGuire VA Hospital, the Instructional Visiting Nurse Association, and Saint Mary's Hospital.

APTA Virginia honored Eric Magrum, Senior Physical Therapist at the UVA Health Orthopedic Center Ivy Road and Director of the VOMPTI Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Residency Program, with the 2023 Beb Cash Award this month.

The prestigious award honors physical therapists who have made outstanding contributions to clinical practice, particularly to patient care improvement. Also, to acknowledge clinician development through participation in APTA Virginia.

Eric graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1994, and went on to complete an Orthopedic Manual Therapy Fellowship program. He earned a full fellowship in the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Therapists and is also board certified through the APTA as an Orthopedic Specialist.

He is a developer and primary instructor of an APTA accredited Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency Program through the Virginia Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy Institute. Eric is involved locally, regionally, and nationally in teaching and research in the fields of lower quarter biomechanics; running injuries, manual therapy, and orthopedic sports medicine.

Eric has been involved with the planning and development of Running Medicine; an annual symposium at The University of Virginia, devoted to caring for the running athlete. Throughout his career, he has published over 20 articles in peer reviewed journals; multiple book chapters; and is a co-editor of the Textbook of Running Medicine.
