“The Future of Health Care in the United States of America."
 

Course Description:

This presentation will describe factors impacting the delivery of health care delivery in the U.S. and possible responses of the system to these factors. We will explore recent technological developments and their potential impact on healthcare providers and patients. A significant focus will be ways to improve healthcare delivery in the U.S.
 

Course Objectives:

  1. List and describe three (3) key drivers of change in the U.S. Health Care System.
  2. Define the term "Precision Medicine."
  3. List and describe three (3) factors contributing to a shortage of nurses in the U.S. Health Care System.
  4. Describe possible outcomes of recent mergers and acquisitions (M&A) within the healthcare sector in the U.S.
  5. Define and differentiate between augmented and artificial intelligence.
  6. Describe two (2) developing technologies that may impact rural health care delivery.
  7. What is the "Amazon Effect" and how might it impact healthcare delivery in the U.S.?
 

Dr. Alan McKay

In June 1995, Dr. McKay assumed the Deanship of the new Shenandoah University School of Pharmacy in Winchester, Virginia. He has been on the faculty of Mercer University, the University of Maryland, and the University of Arkansas, and is currently Professor and Dean at the Bernard J. Dunn, Shenandoah University School of Pharmacy.
