Vaccine Administration

The Board has not issued any formal guidance in this area, but the below information may be helpful in response.
 
Neither the Board's statutes or regulations (§ 54.1-3473 et seq.; 18VAC112-20-10 et seq.) or the Drug Control Act provisions in the Code of Virginia regarding administration of drugs or vaccines contain language for the administration of vaccines by physical therapists (See § 54.1-3408).    
 
The Board of Physical Therapy currently does not have any waivers in this area.  Because the process for administration of the COVID vaccine is fast evolving, should there be any updates involving the Board of Physical Therapy or physical therapists and vaccine administration, I will provide that information.
 
In the meantime, the Virginia Department of Health maintains a webpage specifically related to the vaccine and resources for healthcare providers.  The webpage can be accessed at: https://www.vdh.virginia.gov/covid-19-vaccine/.
 
Finally, VDH's Immunization Division (https://www.vdh.virginia.gov/immunization/) may be another resource to answer questions regarding healthcare providers and administration of vaccines as they develop and implement the delivery model.
